South Korean director Jung-gook Lee fashions a slick, Hollywood blockbuster-like spectacle of action-adventure and romantic-drama in his taut nautical thriller, BLUE. Lifelong best friends Jun (Hyeon-jun Shin) and Tae-hyeon (Yeong-ho Kim) are promising deep-sea diving cadets at a Korean naval academy, where they both fall in love with the same woman, the ambitious naval officer Su-jin (Eun-kyoung Shin). The uneasy love triangle is further inflamed when the threesome is assigned to the dangerous rescue of a submarine stranded 1000 feet below the surface of the ocean, leading to tense, soap-opera dramatics and thrilling, deep-sea-diving action sequences.
