MERCI POUR LE CHOCOLAT, a beautifully crafted and delectably delivered mystery suspense story directed by Claude Chabrol, stars the icy Isabelle Huppert as Mika, the perfect wife, mother, and career woman who runs a chocolate factory passed down from her father. But something is amiss. Mika has recently remarried the famous concert pianist Andre Polonski (a handsome, charming Jacques Dutronc), whose second wife died tragically. While that dark event hangs unpleasantly over their heads, it is Mika who tries to make things work again, lavishing praise upon her husband and her teenage step son, Guillaume (Rodolphe Pauly), and serving them homemade hot chocolate every evening. Meanwhile, Jeanne (Anna Mouglalis), a young woman who was born on the same day in the same hospital as Guillaume, delights in her natural gift for playing the piano, eager to learn more. When Jeanne hears a strange story about how, on the day of her birth, she was momentarily confused as Andre Polonski's baby, she cannot dismiss the bizarre coincidence of her talent for piano, and wonders if somehow she is his true daughter. Curious, she goes to Andre's house where she becomes tangled in Mika's chocolate web. Leos Carax (LOVERS ON THE BRIDGE, POLA X) updates the crime genre with MAUVAIS SANG, which stars Denis Lavant as Alex, the teenage son of a murdered gangster. Known by his father's criminal friends as Tongue-tied, Alex is recruited to steal a valuable antidote to an AIDS-like virus called STBO, in which individuals become infected when they have loveless sex. Leaving behind his girlfriend Lise (Julie Delpy), Alex settles in with Marc (Michel Piccoli) and Hans (Hans Meyer), and is immediately overwhelmed by the beauty of Marc's girlfriend, Anna (Juliette Binoche). When the time comes for Alex to steal the antidote, he now has a new reason to live; only the arrival of an aging American gangster threatens to disrupt his plans for a new life.Though his film has all the intrigue, suspense, and car chases that are a requisite of the genre, Carax is more interested in the medium of film itself to build tension. A chilling and enigmatic adaptation of a bestseller by Japanese novelist Suzuki Koji, THE RING VIRUS centers around a journalist who is investigating her cousin's mysterious demise. She finds and watches a videotape in her cousin's home that predicts its viewer's death in a week's time; the tape, however, cuts off at the point where it seems about to provide an antidote to this curse. The heroine, together with a lecherous doctor who harbors sympathy for supernatural concerns, must solve the puzzle presented by the tape and the multiple unexplained deaths without allowing the information to fall into the wrong hands. Gripping, emotional, and thoroughly entertaining, this film is a must-see for anyone who enjoyed THE RING, as well as horror fans in general.

A historical drama that recreates the brutal events of 1946 Russia, in which Stalin, having tricked expatriates into returning to their native land, murders and imprisons them as they cross the border. The film focuses on a married couple and their seven-year-old son. The father, a Russian immigrant living in France, decides to move his family back to Russia. Landing, they are only kept alive due to the fact that he is a doctor. Eventually, the mother becomes fed up and searches for a way to return to France.
