One of Lucio Fulci's (THE BEYOND) last films, DEMONIA stars Brett Halsey and Meg Register as a pair of archaeologists whose expedition into the Valley of the Temples in southeast Sicily goes horribly wrong. Though plagued by a number of mysterious murders and despite the locals' warnings, Liza (Register) and the crew continue their work. Unearthing the ruins of a 16th century convent, Liza becomes haunted by dreams of the convent's violent history of crucifixions and devil worship and begins to sink into madness as the expedition unleashes the sinister forces buried there. Fulci himself briefly appears in the film as a detective.DVD Features:Region 1Keep CaseAudio: Stereo - Italian Stereo - EnglishAdditional Release Material: Production Interview - 1. Chronically Unfeasible (DVD) Chronically Unfeasible (DVD) » Chronically Unfeasible (DVD)

Sergio Bianchi's CHRONICALLY UNFEASIBLE is a manifesto against the corruption and hypocrisy of the Brazilian body politic. It explores the relationships between the staff and customers of an expensive restaurant in Sao Paulo while a professor researches the appalling living conditions in the countryside. Each person tries to either gain or retain power with hilarious and disastrous effect resulting in an absurd tale of the inability of people to connect with one another. In one scene, Professor Alfredo (Umberto Magnani) watches a group of slum kids play the drums for a middle class audience and comments on the tragedy of poverty as a tourist attraction. Characterized by an acerbic wit, Bianchi's inflammatory style explodes the shallow pretense of its characters unearthing their contradictory natures that are as frightful as they are expected. Influenced by the films of the French New Wave and continuing a tradition which began with the Brazilian film movement known as Cinema Novo, Bianchi's aesthetic is characterized by jump cuts, the fusion of documentary with fiction, and constantly veers from the main action with commentary and asides. CHRONICALLY UNFEASIBLE drew passionate reactions pro and con from Brazilian critics and was nominated for a Brazilian Academy Award for Best Picture in 2001.This film screened in March 2002 as part of the retrospective Taking No Prisoners: The Films of Sergio Bianchi organized by the Film Society of Lincoln Center in New York City.DVD Features:Region 1Keep CaseWidescreenAudio: Dolby Digital Stereo - EnglishInteractive Features: Interactive Menus Scene Selection

Nights of Cabiria - Criterion Collection (DVD) Nights of Cabiria - Criterion Collection (DVD) » Nights of Cabiria - Criterion Collection (DVD)

Federico Fellini's classic drama, NIGHTS OF CABIRIA, is about a childlike prostitute who remains curiously unsullied by the brutal world she inhabits, even as the love and respectability she seeks elude her. Guilietta Masina plays Cabiria, a wide-eyed waif, a streetwalker living in a poor section of Rome where she owns her own little house, has a bank account, and dreams of a miracle. We follow her nights and days and watch as her boyfriend steals her purse and tosses her in the river, a movie star on the Via Veneto takes her home with him, and she visits the Madonna. When she meets an accountant who watches her act out her heart's longings while under hypnosis on a vaudeville stage, she thinks that at long last she has found her ticket out of the slums. Is it fate that led to their meeting? Is this finally a man who appreciates her for who she is? Is it true love? These suspenseful--and strangely comical--questions that will decide Cabiria's fate once and for all make this film one of Federico Fellini's most haunting works.DVD Features:Region 1 EncodingKeep CaseFeatures the Never-Before-Seen Seven MinuteMan With a Sack SequenceVideo Interview with Former Fellini Assistant Dominique DeloucheAudio Interview with Producer Dino De LaurentiisOriginal and Re-Release Theatrical TrailersExcerpt From THE WHITE SHEIKRestoration Demonstration
