Directed by acclaimed Spanish filmmaker Jose Juan Bigas Luna, HUEVOS DE ORO (GOLDEN BALLS) stars Javier Bardem in his breakthrough role (for which he also received a Goya Award nomination). In this satire of Latin machismo and the excesses of the 1980s, Bardem plays Benito Gonzalez, who dreams of building a mighty skyscraper and thereby securing fame and wealth for himself. His main advantages are his uncontrollable self-assurance and skills as a lothario. He marries the daughter of a rich banker while keeping a mistress on the side, but his betrayal of both women begin to destroy his plans for the building as well as his chauvinist self-confidence. Bigas Luna brings his trademarks--an honest exploration of sexuality and surrealistic imagery--to this tale of male egotism and its undoing.DVD Features:Region (unknown)Keep CaseAnamorphic Widescreen - 1.85Audio: Dolby Digital 5.1 Stereo - CastilianAdditional Release Material: Trailers Neutral Spanish Audio

A close-knit trio of dashing art thieves (Chow Yun-Fat, Leslie Cheung, and Cherie Chung) undertake one last lucrative job before their planned retirement, only to be torn apart when the heist goes awry as the result of a double-cross from their criminal mentor. Once reunited, the team resolves to get revenge. ONCE A THIEF showcases a more comical side of Woo, who packs his script with screwball double-entendres that translate shakily from Cantonese but retains his facility for deft action photography and his thematic interest in friends trying to remain loyal in a world full of betrayal. Also features Woo's trademark gratuitous tearjerking montages set to sappy Cantopop ballads.DVD Features:Region Encoding: All RegionsKeep CaseMultiple Language Options

Otilia Rauda, La Mujer Del Pueblo (DVD) Otilia Rauda, La Mujer Del Pueblo (DVD) » Otilia Rauda, La Mujer Del Pueblo (DVD)

Otilia (Gabriela Canudas) is a woman both blessed and cursed. She is endowed with an incredible, voluptuous figure, and unusual facial characteristics. Because she has some features that others consider beautiful and some that defines the picture of hideousness, her life is bound by the dual nature of that existence. In her relationships with other members of her small Mexican pueblo, she constantly grapples with their conflicting (and yet passionate) feelings of repulsion, desire, jealously, and outright terror. Otilia herself, who constantly must employ the force of her character to overcome what other see as her physical limitations, must always be tormented by unfulfilled romantic impulses. Through some romantic encounters, Otilia proves herself to be capable of extraordinary emotion that others do not have the insight to feel. This lovely effort by Dana Rotberg has resulted in a daring and suggestive film that questions the nature of beauty and desire. The woman's body in this film is a canvas by which the director projects her criticism of social hypocrisy. Despite its humility, this heart wrenching film is nevertheless an important work that turns traditional female lead roles completely upside down. Cinema is lucky to get this wake up call.DVD Features:Region (unknown)Keep CaseFull Frame - 1.33Audio: Stereo 2.0 - SpanishAdditional Release Material: Trailers

East Palace, West Palace (DVD) East Palace, West Palace (DVD) » East Palace, West Palace (DVD)

China's rebellious and incessantly audacious Yuan Zhang delves into the secret world of illicit homosexuality in his devastatingly erotic and politically astute film, EAST PALACE, WEST PALACE. Immediately banned by the Chinese government, the film follows the young gay writer, A-Lan, as he drifts in and out of China's hidden homosexual haunts, where he is beaten, humiliated and harassed along with other gays. When a handsome policeman busts him for cruising the grounds of the Forbidden Palace, A-lan starts to see his behavior as a dangerous obsession. When he is caught by the officer a second time, A-lan undergoes a loaded overnight interrogation laced with barely sublimated erotic tension in which he talks about his life as a homosexual to the enraptured officer. As A-lan describes the sometimes tortuous conditions of being gay in China, which he proudly proclaims make life worth living, the master and servant relationship slowly evolves into one of curious attraction and fear. Zhang slyly uses the chamber drama taking place between A-lan and the officer to create a stunning metaphor for the sado-masochistic relation that Chinese people have with their own authority figures. As the drama is played out, Alan's dreamlike, tragedy-laced past mingles with symbolic images from Chinese opera. Each of A-lan's stories deftly seduces the officer and further illuminates A-lan's complex hidden courage.DVD Features:Region 1Keep CaseFull Frame - 1.33:1

Solaris/Cast Away (DVD) » Solaris/Cast Away (DVD)

SOLARIS: Steven Soderbergh (OCEAN'S ELEVEN, TRAFFIC) delivers yet another inspired remake with this pensive sci-fi drama based on the book by Stanislaw Lem. Taking his cue from Russian master Andrei Tarkovsky's 1972 epic of the same name, Soderbergh boldly chooses atmosphere over action, crafting a profoundly meditative work that will challenge audiences for many years to come. George Clooney plays Chris Kelvin, a therapist who is sent to a space station near the planet of Solaris in order to investigate a series of mysterious happenings. When he arrives, he finds only two surviving crew members, the hyper-strange Snow (Jeremy Davies) and ultra-paranoid Gordon (Viola Davis). Unable to make sense of their fear and confusion, Chris soon discovers the reason for their anxiety. In a seemingly implausible turn of events caused by Solaris's bizarre energy levels, Chris's deceased wife Rhea (Natascha McElhone) reappears. Fully aware that Rhea is only a figment of his memory, Chris is nonetheless unable to dismiss her due to the tragic events surrounding her death. He must somehow find a way to bid farewell to Rhea once and for all without collapsing under the weight of his own guilty conscience. Soderbergh's dream of a motion picture successfully balances philosophy with romance, telling a familiar tale of love and loss in a strikingly original way.CAST AWAY: Tom Hanks is Chuck Noland, a man in a hurry. His job for Federal Express has him traveling the world on a moment's notice, exhorting the company's employees to speed things up--never turn your back on the clock. When he's suddenly called away for business on Christmas night, his tolerant longtime girlfriend Kelly (Helen Hunt) drives him to the airport. They have their Christmas in the car--and Chuck plunks an engagement ring into her lap right before he gets on the plane, telling her, I'll be right back. But an unexpected storm cuts the plane's crew off from radio contact and blows them off course. Chuck is th
