The legendary Mexican actor Jorge Negrete stars in HASTA QUE PERDIO JALISCO, a vintage slice of comedy from that country`s golden age of cinema. Written and directed by Fernando De Fuentes, the film features Negrete as a ladies` man who is called upon to take care of his newborn nephew, ensuing in a rollicking series of comedic hijinks. The Mexican classic is presented in Spanish without subtitles.

Filmed in Beijing and New York, FLEEING BY NIGHT tells the story of Shaodung (Lei Huang), an American-educated cellist who returns to China for his arranged marriage to Ing'er (Rene Li) the daughter of a wealthy opera house owner. Once back home, however, Shaodung finds himself drawn to singer Lin Chun (Chao-te Yi), whose impassioned rendition of the opera Lin Chun Flees By Night strikes a deep chord in both him and his fiancee. The three become friends, with Ing'er unaware of the deeper attraction between the men. Unfortunately Chun is trapped in servitude to the master of the company, who pimps him out to a rich playboy (Lai-jen Tai), and Shaodung is deeply closeted, which hinders him from acting on his desires. Set primarily in the late 1930s (but ultimately spanning decades), the film effectively uses China's pre-revolution cultural contrasts to parallel its characters' own identity crises. Directors Li-Kong Hsu and Chi Yin allow the story and performances to unfold deliberately and delicately. A fascinating movie that was shot in the immediate aftermath of the Second World War, Alfred Radok's DISTANT JOURNEY was a bold feature film that tackled the holocaust in a time when people were still shocked and appalled at the Nazi's activities. Radok's film was swiftly banned by authorities who struggled to find any worth in his work. The plot followed a family in Prague as they succumb to the Nazi threat and attempt to stay alive. Brutally shot, the documentary-like feel of the film lends an air of painful reality to DISTANT JOURNEY, making it unbearably poignant in places. A hugely moving piece, Radok's film finally takes its rightful place in cinematic history with this release, which is sure to please cinema scholars and anyone interested in the history of the Second World War.
