Robert Bresson won a Best Director Award at the 1983 Cannes Film Festival, as well as the Grand Prize for Creation, for this contemporary revision of Leo Tolstoy's short story. The tragedy tells of how an innocent prank goes wrong and becomes the definitive moment in a man's life. When a young man passes a forged 500-franc note at a photography shop, the photographer passes it along to an unsuspecting victim. It eventually lands in the hands of Yvon Targe (Christian Patey), an innocent man who is detained when he tries to use it to pay for a meal. Hiring an attorney to hopefully bring the truth to light, Yvon is shocked to discover that the photographer will not budge from his story. To make matters even worse, he has goaded his assistant into lying along with him. This causes Yvon to lose his job and self-respect, triggering a downward spiral that results in a murder. BressonAes final film is a haunting commentary that condemns materialism and its sinful offspring, exploring universal themes that only continue to grow in importance in modern society. Proving that not all filmmakers weaken as they age, LAeARGENT remains as profound a work of art as the directorAes early masterpiece, A MAN ESCAPED.

Picking off where he left off with THE MOST TERRIBLE TIME IN MY LIFE, director Kaizo Hayashi creates yet another witty, action-packed homage/spoof to French New Wave cinema, American film noir, and Japanese gangster films. THE STAIRWAY TO THE DISTANT PAST once again stars Masatoshi Nagase as Private Detective Mike Hama, who when the film begins, is practically homeless. Things change however, with the arrival of Lilly, a beautiful and mysterious stripper whose true identity may hold the secret to Mike's past. Hayashi brings part two of his acclaimed series to life with vivid color and graphic violence captured in an ironic and highly stylized way.

The Blob (DVD) » The Blob (DVD)

A strange gelatinous organism from space falls to Earth in the small American town of Arborville. The blob engulfs and eats dogs, then humans, then everything in sight as it grows larger and more harmful to the townspeople. The government gets involved, but are their motives in the best interest of the citizens? Hockey-haired rebel Brian (Kevin Dillon) and brave cheerleader Meg (Shawnee Smith) may be the only townspeople to uncover the secret to it all! The classic 1958 monster film gets a modern facelift in which the major difference is the grade of special effects on display. The plot remains essentially the same, with a dash of conspiracy and paranoia thrown in for good measure, but the blob--and the full-view digestion of its victims--is more frightening than ever.DVD Features:Region 1 EncodingKeep CaseWidescreenAudio: Dolby Digital 2.0 - English Dolby Digital 2.0 - French Dolby Digital 2.0 - Spanish Dolby Digital 2.0 - PortugueseAdditional Release Material: Trailer - 1.
