A living timeline branching across 64 years of German history commencing with the first world war, this compelling 9-hour chronicle immerses viewers in the lives and lineage of small-town family the Simons like a steadily unfolding novel. Avoiding the tendency towards a simplified,
good vs. evil
account of history, Heimat, roughly translated as
homeland,
captures the coexistence of ordinary Germans in times of profound atrocities and radical socio-political transformation. The film`s confrontational view of Germany`s past has prompted introspection from audiences around the world, and the acknowledgement of past crimes against humanity as a shared scar that touches all of human history.

Amores Perros (DVD) Amores Perros (DVD) » Amores Perros (DVD)

Alejandro Gonzalez Iniarritu makes an electrifying directorial debut with AMORES PERROS, an energetic, assured motion picture that jumps off the screen with a seemingly boundless energy. Told in three separate chapters--OCTAVIO AND SUSANA, DANIEL AND VALERIA, and EL CHIVO AND MARU--the film deals with love in the lives of several individuals residing in modern day Mexico City. Octavio (Gael Garcia Bernal) has fallen in love with his brother's wife, Susana (Vanessa Bauche). He begins entering his dog in illegal dogfights in order to save up enough money to run away with her, but eventually learns a powerful lesson when she fails to keep her word. Meanwhile, Daniel (Alvaro Guerrero) has left his wife and daughters for the gorgeous model Valeria (Goya Toledo), but when she is hurt badly in a car accident, the strain on their relationship is stretched to its limits. Finally, El Chivo (Emilio Echevarria) is an ex-revolutionary who has become a paid assassin. Saddened that he has lost all contact with his daughter, he takes one final stand when an intended act of kindness turns brutally tragic. Shot with hand-held immediacy on grainy film stock, Iniarritu's invigorating, Oscar-nominated film gets an added jolt of adrenaline from its throbbing soundtrack.DVD Features:Region 1Keep CaseWidescreenAudio: Dolby Digital 5.1 - Spanish Dolby Digital Stereo - English Dolby Digital Stereo - FrenchAdditional Release Material: Audio Commentary Music Video Behind-the-Scenes Trailers

Or (My Treasure) (DVD) Or (My Treasure) (DVD) » Or (My Treasure) (DVD)

Keren Yedaya`s directorial debut, OR (MY TREASURE), tells of a complex mother-daughter relationship in modern-day Tel-Aviv, Israel. Or (Dana Ivgy) is a 16-year-old girl who does all she can to support her mother, Ruthie (Ronit Elkabetz), a sick and aging prostitute. The film takes great care in showing the taxing daily routines of Or`s life: recycling loose cans, washing dishes in a local restaurant, and going to school when she can. Her ultimate goal is to earn enough money so that her mother never has to walk the streets again. Or even finds a housekeeping job for her mother in hopes that she`ll stop turning tricks. It soon becomes clear that Or must assume all of the strains and responsibility of the household to help her poor mother, and thus the traditional roles of parent and child are reversed. Other films might make a character like Ruthie contemptible, but Yedaya does not. Indeed, there are some loving scenes between this mother and daughter who truly need each other. In OR (MY TREASURE), Yedaya achieves a unique look, including a minimal amount of shots per scene, and a gritty, no-frills aesthetic. The result is an unflinching and compelling film that won the Golden Camera for Best First Film at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival.

In a Glass Cage (DVD) In a Glass Cage (DVD) » In a Glass Cage (DVD)

In the tradition of art house thrillers such as INSOMNIA, starring Stellan Skarsgard, and THE VANISHING, starring Bernard-Pierre Donnadieu, comes this chilling drama by acclaimed Spanish director Agustin Villaronga. Klaus (Gunter Meisner), a Nazi doctor who used his position as a means to molest young boys, escapes to Spain after the war and returns to his depraved ways. Driven mad by his inability to control his pedophilic urges, Klaus tries to kill himself, but fails and ends up completely incapacitated in an iron lung. Young, attractive Angelo (David Sust) seems like a savior when he arrives to become Klaus' nurse, but he soon reveals an ulterior motive. Angleo has found diaries in which Klaus details his horrible crimes, and the twisted symbiosis that develops between patient and caretaker once again spurs Klaus' desires and leads to a string of gruesome child murders. In addition to strong performances by the primary characters, the film features Marisa Paredes, who regularly appears in the films of Pedro Almodovar. The highly disturbing topics of Nazi war crimes, pedophilia, and torture create a way Villaronga to deal with issues of power and self-concept, as Angelo's identity and desires blends with Klaus and his past, and the strong visuals that incorporate many long shots add to the suspense and sheer terror.DVD Features:Region 1Keep CaseWidescreen AnamorphicAdditional Release Material: Interview With The DirectorInteractive Features: Interactive Menus Scene Access

This award-winning show, LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT, is a spin off of NBC`s incredibly popular and long running crime drama, LAW & ORDER. Starring Christopher Merloni and Mariska Hargitay (who has won a coveted Golden Globe as well as been nominated for two Emmy Awards for her work on the show) as Detectives Stabler and Benson, SVU focuses on sex crimes. Rather than spending half the program`s hour with the cops and the other half with the lawyers, this series stays with the police and the criminals they pursue for most of the show. Set in New York City, the second season of the series introduces rap star Ice-T to the cast as Detective
Fin
Tutuola, a transfer from the Narcotics division. All 22 episodes from the season are included her.
