Mixing sharp social commentary and comedy, director Juan Carlos Tabio's (STRAWBERRY& CHOCOLATE) WAITING LIST brings together a cast of characters who possess drastically different personalities, but who find much in common while they wait (and wait, and wait) for a bus to Santiago. As each person enters the terminal, he or she must sign a waiting list for the next bus. Reflecting the unwieldy nature of Cuban socialism, the line grows longer, and the only buses that seem to stop are full or broken down.In contrast, Tabio also effectively portrays the hardy nature of his subjects and by extension, the hopes for a smoother governmental system. As the passengers get to know each other better, romance develops, friendships form, and everyone gets scammed by a man (Jorge Perugorria) who pretends to be blind for a chance at the top of the list. As they suffer together, the group sets about creating a more welcoming bus stop--an undertaking that echoes Cuban governmental calls for grassroots efforts toward community improvement.DVD Features:Region [unknown]Keep CaseLetterboxed - 1.85Audio: Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound - SpanishAdditional Release Material: Featurette - 1.Interview/Making Of TrailerInteractive Features: Weblinks

Would you like to meet a ghost?
This foreboding question is posed to a young man by his own computer, suddenly able to dial up to the Internet--by itself. Unfortunately for the characters in Kiyoshi Kurosawa`s PULSE, inquisitive PCs are the least of their problems. What begins as the seemingly isolated suicide of a computer hacker in Tokyo leads to a series of mysterious disappearances and deaths in this bone-chilling thriller. As Michi (Kumiko Aso), a young woman working on a rooftop plant nursery, attempts to find out what happened to her deceased friend, a slacker named Kawashima (Haruhiko Katt) reports his computer`s unusual behavior to Harue (Koyuki), an attractive tech specialist. Separately, they witness an unraveling horror which manifests itself in haunting digital images, coal-black stains, doors sealed with red tape, and lingering apparitions--all leading to a steady decrease in Tokyo`s population.Like RING, another prime example of Japanese horror, Kurosawa`s PULSE manages to take a B-movie plot and elevate to a level of both terror and artistry that`s rarely, if ever, seen in the West. Rather than relying on gore and special effects, the film uses expert cinematography (courtesy of Junichirt Hayashi, also the cameraman on RING and Kurosawa`s CHARISMA), bleak backdrops, creepy music, and the good ol` power of suggestion to create what eventually becomes an existential nightmare. To call PULSE
scary
would be a grave understatement; most viewers will never look at a roll of red tape the same way again.

Thoroughly modern in its story, its characters, its urban Tokyo setting, its absurdly funny action sequences, and its understated and ironic self-mockery, TOKYO GODFATHERS is an anime gem from director Satoshi Kon (MILLENNIUM ACTRESS). It is a snowy Christmas in Tokyo and three homeless people--Hana, Gin, and Miyuki--who drift through the streets and alleyways of the city staying warm in the supermarkets and soup kitchens, make up a nontraditional family. Gin is a older man who once had a wife and daughter but lost them and spiraled downward into drinking and drifting. Hana is a flamboyant cross-dressing homosexual who dreams of having a baby. And Miyuki is just a kid--a young girl who ran away from home after a conflict with her father and is still battling familial demons. When the three motley but loving bums find a baby girl abandoned in the garbage on Christmas Eve, they know they've received a true gift. But in their attempts to return the baby to its real mother they go on a wild goose chase all over Tokyo solving mysteries, pursuing criminals, and all the while tackling their own personal problems. According to director Kon, the plot is based on the 1948 Western 3 GODFATHERS directed by John Ford. This immensely entertaining film features a jazzy score of electronic music, excellent illustrations, and superb character development.DVD Features:Region 1Keep CaseWidescreenAudio: Dolby Digital 5.1 - JapaneseAdditional Release Material: Trailer - 1.
