A helicopter pilot from a small Georgian village has dreams of becoming a big international airline pilot, and he will stop at nothing to achieve his goal in this charming comedy that is much-loved in its native Russia. Mimino (Vakhtang Kikabidze), which translates into falcon, ventures from his comfortable home to Moscow, posing as a member of an endocrinology conference in order to gain admittance at a hotel. There he forms an unlikely friendship with an Armenian--typically the enemies of Georgians--who is posing as well, and the pair have many misadventures as they attempt to navigate the sophisticated big city with their small-town ways. Though permeated with distinctly Soviet humor, this warmhearted, award-winning tale of a country boy in the big city has a universal and timeless appeal.
