This feature-length documentary delves into the life and career of Jacques Demy, the noted French New Wave director, known for his classic tribute to the Hollywood musical, THE UMBRELLAS OF CHERBOURG. His early work was highly stylized, energetic, and romantic. His first feature, LOLA sported camera work reminiscent of the work of Max Ophuls (to whom the film was dedicated). His work declined later in his career, as he experimented with true comedy and musicals that never quite achieved the magic of CHERBOURG.
