This impossibly bad zombie/cannibal movie could only have been filmed by Bruno Mattei, the laughably inept director of films like SS EXTERMINATION LOVE CAMP and RATS: NIGHT OF TERROR. The plot centers around a New Guinea chemical accident that attracts the attention of a SWAT team and a buxom reporter (Newton). When the SWAT team finally penetrates the chemical cloud, they find a race of flesh eating zombies hungry for fresh human food. Full of gratuitous nudity, stock footage of natives, animals, rotting corpses, and inane dialogue, HELL OF THE LIVING DEAD is a hilarious attempt at recreating the magic of the films that inspired it (DAWN OF THE DEAD, ZOMBIE, ZOMBIE HOLOCAUST).

With I'M GOING HOME, Portuguese director Manoel de Oliveira presents a tender film about the zest for life that gives the human spirit resilience in the face of hardship. Michel Piccoli stars as Gilbert Valence, an aging actor who is in the prime of his career, enjoying his pick of prominent roles in both theater and film. During a performance of Exit the King by Eugene Ionesco, with Valence's king weeping over his lost throne, three men arrive backstage to deliver some terrible news: Valence's wife and two children have been killed in a car accident. Saddened but undefeated, Valence continues with the simple daily activities that bring him joy. Each morning he watches his young grandson, Serge (Jean Koeltgen), running off to grade school. He delights in looking at the monuments of Paris at Trocadero, Place de la Concorde, and the Eiffel Tower. He wanders the grand boulevards, stopping to buy himself a new pair of shoes. Focusing on a typical family--parents, two children, and an elderly grandmother--living in a small apartment in Taipei, YI YI (A ONE AND A TWO) is about the patterns of daily life. It includes a wedding, a funeral, a first date, a last date, a birth, and a death. The film follows each member of the Jian family carefully, giving each one equal time, completely developing each character. NJ (Wu Nienjen), the father of the family, struggles with a dead-end job at a technology firm while reexamining his marriage when he meets his high school sweetheart, Sherry (Ke Suyun), after 30 years. NJ's teenage daughter, Ting-Ting (Kelly Lee), has a selfless demeanor and a naive interest in everything, which diffuses the complexity of her high school life. Her little brother, Yang-Yang (Jonathan Chang), is an adorable five-year-old troublemaker who's in love with a pesky girl in his class.
