Plato Mavoski (Vladimir Mashkov) is the Russian government's worst nightmare. While still a brilliant young academic, he encourages four of his friends to set aside their studies and join him in a variety of business schemes beginning in the late 1980s. Mavoski's semi-legal enterprises make him not only the richest man in Russia, but quite possibly the country's most powerful man as well, not to mention a target for Russian secret service officers and other numerous enemies. Fortunes are amassed, corruption is rampant, and political careers are made and lost during Mavoski's rise to wealth and power, which is depicted via flashbacks of the past 15 years as Mavoski is investigated by an inspector, Chmakov (Andrei Krasko). Mashkov is riveting as Mavoski, an idealist who is consumed by greed and power, ultimately left questioning if there is anyone he can trust. Co-written and directed by Pavel Lounguine (THE WEDDING, THE LIFE IN RED), TYCOON was adapted from the novel THE BIG SLICE by Yuli Dubov, which was reportedly based on the life of Russian oligarch and expatriate Boris Berezovsky.DVD Features:Region 1Keep CaseWidescreen - 1.85Additional Release Material: Trailers - 1. La Marcha Verde (DVD) La Marcha Verde (DVD) » La Marcha Verde (DVD)

Director Jose Luis Garcia Sanchez and writer Rafael Azcona took a different approach to making a historical film by using the conventions of the musical comedy as opposed to the period drama. In the 1970s, Spain and Morocco were in conflict over a section of the Sahara controlled by the former. Instead of marching troops into the territory, the King of Morocco, Hassan II, sent an enormous group of civilians to occupy the land, in a maneuver dubbed THE GREEN MARCH. The group was led by a troupe of performers, and was dominated by a carnivalesque spirit. The Spanish soldiers, amazed, could do nothing but join in the fun. THE GREEN MARCH has a unique tone for a historical film, especially considering that it chronicles an event that many saw as the end of Francoism and the colonial impulse in Spain.DVD Features:Region (unknown)Keep CaseAnamorphic Widescreen - 1.85Audio: Dolby Digital 5.1 - CastilianAdditional Release Material: Trailers Deleted Scenes Interviews

Bamboo Round Vase (Vietnam) » Bamboo Round Vase (Vietnam)

Made from compressed bamboo strips, this vase is ample size for fresh flowers. Each vase takes 45 days to complete (after the bamboo has been soaked for 6-12 months!).
Wound bamboo comes from Cat Dang, Vietnam.
The soaked bamboo is cut into very fine strips (0.08 inch) and pressed into a curve.
The strips are then coiled outward from the centre of each vase.
A frame is used to achieve uniform depth and angles.
After a coating of cashew oil-based glue, the work is left to dry.
Each piece is cut, shaped and smoothed by hand, as many as four times, and then polished repeatedly.
It takes many coats of paint, and many more polishings, to bring rough bamboo to this smooth, glowing finish.
These repeated, patient processes establish the level of quality of lacquer products. Choose from teal or red.
Domestic competition for the tourist market tends to cheapen both quality and the artisans' return from their work.
This group, already with nearly 100 members, hopes to expand through Worldstock, bringing additional villagers into better-paid work in improved conditions.
