This kinetic horror/action hybrid stars Tak Sakaguchi as Prisoner KSC2-303, a criminal who has just escaped from a maximum security prison. Heading to the Forest of Resurrection to meet up with some gangsters, KSC2-303's escape plan soon veers off course when an argument with one of the gangsters leads KSC2-303 to shoot him. Worse still, KSC2-303 finds out the hard way that when you kill something in the Forest of Resurrection, it does not stay dead. Things get even more complicated when all the dead people the gangsters have buried in the forest begin coming back to life and packing heat. Blending zombie horror with EVIL DEAD 2 style slapstick and Hong Kong action pyrotechnics, VERSUS is a very bloody and very enjoyable thriller.DVD Features:Region 1Keep CaseAnamorphic WidescreenAudio: DTS Surround 5.1 - Japanese DTS Surround 5.1 - EnglishAdditional Release Material: Audio CommentaryInteractive Features: Scene Access Interactive Menus

Under threats of death from the ruling Japanese army, a WWII Chinese village cares for a wounded Japanese soldier and a Chinese translator-collaborator. Awaiting the promised rescue mission, the villagers are in a quandary, uncertain whether to free or kill their captives. The New Year passes as botched escapes and assassination attempts pile up. A bold plan is finally devised by the foolhardy Ma Dasan (Jiang Wen) to return the men to the Imperial Army in exchange for wheat. Complications mount, varying in significance from the atom bomb to a horny donkey. The notion of honor and heroism, reverential in Eastern interpretations of WWII, are skewered in this chaotic black comedy depicting the insanity of war. Shot in black and white, actor-director Jiang Wen's (the lead in RED SORGHUM) daring film ranges in tone from a grave absurdist farce to a solemn cry for peace. China banned the film and reportedly briefly blacklisted Jiang Wen after the controversial film won the Grand Jury Prize at the 2000 Cannes Film Festival.DVD Features:Notes: This release is a new digital transfer.Region 1Keep CaseAnamorphic Widescreen - 1.85Audio: Dolby Digital Stereo 2.0 - JapaneseAdditional Release Material: Introduction - 1. Michael (DVD) Michael (DVD) » Michael (DVD)

A 1924 adaptation of Herman Bang's decadent novel from Danish master Carl Theodor Dreyer, MICHAEL is a recreation of the mythological love triangle between Jupiter, his wife Juno, and Ganymede. Sensitive and elegant, it is a technically adept and sumptuous portrait of an aging artist, Zoret (director Benjamin Christensen), and his passionate love for his young muse, Michael (Walter Slezak, LIFEBOAT). When Princess Zamika (Nora Gregor, RULES OF THE GAME), a sensuous femme fatale, also falls under the spell of his youthful beauty, Michael is in turn enchanted and begins to drift away from the older man; Zoret is left to watch helplessly, and eventually succumbs to despair and loneliness. With performances both melodramatic and subtly restrained, the depth of the characters' love and melancholy are brilliantly communicated. The elaborate fin de siecle sets are stunningly photographed by cinematographer Karl Freund (METROPOLIS, THE LAST LAUGH), who also appears here in the sole onscreen performance of his career.DVD Features:Region 1Keep CaseFull Frame - 1.33Additional Release Material: Audio Commentary - 1.Casper Tybjerg - Danish film scholar Filmographies - 1.
