Director Daniel Burman's gently funny and moving film focuses on a small group of Buenos Aires residents as Argentina faces economic turmoil. Ariel (Daniel Hendler), a young Jewish man, has just lost his mother. He wants to break away from the predictable path his life is taking. Spurred on by his meddling boss (Imanol Arias), Ariel finds himself drawn to a sexy co-worker, Laura (Chiara Caselli), who tells him she's gay. Ariel's longtime girlfriend, Estela (Melina Petriella) starts working at the restaurant owned by Ariel's father, Simon (Hector Alterio), setting up a karaoke machine and a miniatureWestern wall where customers can make wishes. Meanwhile, Santamaria (Enrique Pineyro) loses his job at the bank and his home, and starts earning a living by digging through the trash for lost and stolen wallets, and returning them for a reward. He finds himself attracted to Elsa (Stefania Sandrelli of THE CONFORMIST), a lonely washroom attendant whose husband is in prison. Burman's affection for these characters is palpable, whether he's showing a Hanukkah celebration in El Once, the city's Jewish neighborhood, or a tender lesbian love scene. WAITING FOR THE MESSIAH captures the intimate details of these lives with compassion, humor, and hope.DVD Features:Region 1Keep CaseAudio: Dolby Digital Stereo - Spanish

Flemish filmmaker Felix Van Groeningen's debut feature STEVE + SKY, a gritty romantic drama about a struggling petty criminal and his shockingly beautiful stripper lover, takes place amidst a backdrop of crime and shady goings-on in the red light district of Ghent. Recently released from a prison stint for a drug violation, scrawny Steve (Titus De Voogdt) looks up his cell-mate Jean-Claude (Johan Heldenbergh) and immediately joins him in a motorcycle-stealing racket and the reopening of his exotic dance club. Along the way, he meets the gorgeous Sky (Van Groeningen's girlfriend and fashion model Delfine Bafort), a wounded soul looking for her place in the world. As their unlikely romance develops and Sky grows dependent on Steve's affections, he rejects her love and his alienation places a nearly fatal strain on Sky's fragile psyche.Influenced by films like PULP FICTION and ALL THE REAL GIRLS, Van Groeningen has created a whirlwind of a story, with a constantly thumping soundtrack by Belgian DJs Soulwax (aka 2 Many DJs) setting off the action. In Flemish Dutch language, STEVE + SKY is the first feature film to use the Ghent dialect of the language rather than the usual Antwerp dialect. Additionally, there is a brief cameo as a bouncer from former Belgian boxer Jean-Pierre Coopman, famous for a 1976 fight with Muhammad Ali. An admirable mix of action and intense character drama, STEVE + SKY is a fast-paced and touching drama about real people trying to fulfill their hopes and dreams as they dodge both the law and social conformity.

SCENES FROM A MARRIAGE was originally conceived as a six-part TV mini-series. Since the film features only two principal actors, a limited number of indoor locales, and no musical score (nor any other atmosphere-enhancing devices), the success of this intense drama stems largely from the interaction between leads Liv Ullmann and Erland Josephson, who play Marianne and Josef, an upper-middle-class married couple. At first glance, their lives appear to be devoid of marital conflict, but soon after the opening sequence, it becomes clear that tension is mounting just below the surface. The movie consists almost entirely of dramatic exchanges between Marianne and Josef and eventually evolves into an agonizing account of the deterioration of their marriage. But throughout it all, a deep, underlying love keeps the couple from breaking off all ties--in spite of the mutual aggression, cruelty, and even violence that forms part of their relationship.Ingmar Bergman anticipated that SCENES FROM A MARRIAGE would baffle, if not antagonize, viewers who had come to expect more stylistically groundbreaking and aesthetically polished work from him. In fact, however, as a result of his unflinching, straightforward approach, the film proves to be one of the director's most insightful and accessible works.DVD Features:Region 13-Disc SetDual LayerFull Frame - 1.33Audio: Mono - SwedishAdditional Release Material: 299-Minute Television Version 163-Minute Theatrical Version Comparison Between the TV and Theatrical Versions By Film Scholar Peter Cowie Interviews - 1. Director Alex de la Iglesia has become well-known in his native Spain for his genre pastiches and parodies, quirky characters similar to those from the Coen brothers, and a bizarre, black-as-pitch humor reminiscent of the early films of Peter Jackson. In his film COMMONWEALTH (LA COMUNIDAD), veteran actress Carmen Maura (best known for WOMEN ON THE VERGE OF A NERVOUS BREAKDOWN) plays a real estate agent who discovers a fortune in the apartment of a dead man. Unfortunately, a group of neighbors have been waiting for the man to die so that they can seize the money for themselves. COMMONWEALTH is filled with tongue-in-cheek movie references and director De la Iglesia deftly handles shifts in tone and genre. The film won three Goya Awards, including one for lead actress Maura.DVD Features:Region 0Keep CaseAnamorphic Widescreen - 2.35Audio: Dolby Digital 5.1 - Castilian Dolby Digital 2.0 - SpanishAdditional Release Material: Featurette - 1. First airing at the beginning of the 1990s, HEARTS AFIRE became popular due to the prescience of its politics, and the apparent chemistry of its characters, both of which manage to come across here on this collection of episodes from the first season. John Ritter stars as John Hartman, the assistant to Senator Strobe Smithers, an aging Southerner who merits comparison to Strom Thurmond. Hartman is joined in the Senator`s office by fellow employees Billy Bob Davis (Billy Bob Thornton), a childhood friend and fellow Vietnam vet; and Dee Dee Starr, the bimbo secretary who is also the Senator`s mistress. When Georgie Anne Lahti comes to apply for the position of press secretary, Hartman hires her immediately because he is very attracted to her. He quickly discovers, however, that her liberal politics and feminist past are at odds with the Senator`s politics, as well as his own. Nonetheless, Hartman invites her to stay at his house until she finds a DC home, and the two soon find their attraction undeniable. Thus the season is established with a dynamic of sexual and political tension that gives rise to endless hilarity.
